Carl McLarand, AIA

Principal

Carl McLarand, AIA, started MVE & Partners in 1974 to provide quality architecture to professional clients. The established firm was further diversified in 2003 when McLarand and his partners opened MVE Institutional with the goal of providing planning and architecture solutions that focused on meeting the needs of public clients and agencies including transportation authorities, school districts, colleges and universities, community and cultural institutions, local governments and redevelopment agencies. His consistent vision, design aptitude and business acumen are the backbone of the firm and it is his ability to move projects from conceptualization through entitlements, design and construction that ensures successful project completion and satisfied repeat clients and stakeholders.

As a recognized industry icon for over thirty years, McLarand has designed and managed a full range of projects for both public and private clients from large-scale residential communities, luxury resorts, international planning developments and high-rise commercial office buildings to civic and community centers, health care facilities, colleges and universities, student housing, religious, cultural and performing arts facilities. His vast experience and technical knowledge of the architecture and building industry provides the foundation for MVE Institutional's leadership.

In addition to his contributions to Southland architecture, McLarand is a respected philanthropist and community leader involved in several noteworthy organizations including the Orange County Boy Scouts of America, South Coast Repertory, USC School of Architecture and Orange County Museum of Art. A part of the McLarand code is to never forget that architects have a responsibility to improve the built environment for society as a whole. "The buildings we design will be there a long time," says McLarand. "They should work for the client, the community and the environment."
