This student housing project addresses a variety of needs of the College such as alleviating some of the tripling-up of students, expanding the range of housing options, supporting a living-learning environment and supporting conferencing needs of the College. In addition, the project provides 120 parking spaces over those needed to support the housing.

The design expresses an awareness of traditional architecture as Myron Hunt did in his campus plan and numerous buildings at Occidental College, as well as a willingness to employ technology. The exterior materials and detailing of the proposed dormitory buildings are reminiscent of those on the existing campus buildings. Our goal was to integrate this new development seamlessly into the campus fabric. The primary organizing element of the building plan is three courtyards linked by a pedestrian paseo cross axis. There are classrooms, multi-purpose spaces, recreation spaces, lounges, study rooms and an exterior banquet space carefully incorporated into the design of this living-learning complex. This new residence hall serves as the gateway to the campus.
